Monster movie OK as morons attack

FILMING of the Hollywood thriller I, Frankenstein resumed yesterday, after the mess left by a mob of destructive hooligans was cleaned up.

On Sunday at 1am, hooligans barged in and trashed the set. Police are investigating the destructive rampage, which saw the movie's mock graveyard sustain serious damage.For the past six weeks Park Orchards has been home to the multi-million-dollar blockbuster, starring Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski and Miranda Otto, with major scenes shot there last week.

Production cleared up the mess on Monday, and returned to film pick-up scenes at the eastern suburbs set yesterday.

Security has now been beefed up on site, while the main production unit has moved to another location. The blockbuster will employ 500 cast and crew.

Eckhart, who is filming thriller I, Frankenstein in Melbourne alongside Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Otto and Bill Nighy, will take some time out to be guest of honour at Sunday's big race.

I, Frankenstein begins shooting Monday

Graphic novel turned feature film I, Frankenstein will begin shooting in February, it was announced today.

Adapted for the screen and directed by Stuart Beattie (Tomorrow When the War Began, Pirates of the Caribbean), I, Frankenstein will be shot in Melbourne over a ten week period from Monday February 27.

The film was due to begin in January.

Key cast include Aaron Eckhart (The Dark knight, Thank You for Smoking), Bill Nighy (Underworld, Love Actually), Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings), Yvonne Strahovski (Killer Elite, I love You Too) and Socratis Otto (X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

The film is expecting a late 2012 release as a collaboration between Lakeshore Entertainment and Hopscotch Features. In Australia it will be released by Hopscotch/eOne. Hopscotch’s Troy Lum, the film’s executive producer said: “Our rewarding production partnership with Lakeshore continues to develop as I, FRANKENSTEIN begins shooting in Victoria. It’s fantastic that the second film from Hopscotch Features to go into production is such an exciting project, and we are delighted to be working with the Lakeshore team on home soil here in Australia”.

The film will be distributed in the US by Lionsgate.

I, Frankenstein is based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, author of Underworld, which has also seen a film franchise.

Eckhart in Australia

Aaron Eckhart has touched down in Australia, according to reports.

The American actor, whose I, Frankenstein is set for filming Down Under was spotted taking in the sights of Melbourne, News Ltd papers report.

I, Frankenstein is a thriller about supernatural creatures who seek world domination, according to movie database website imdb.com.

Due to start filming next month, the film also stars Aussies Yvonne Strahovski and Mirando Otto.

Eckhart starred in The Dark Knight and more recently Rabbit Hole with Nicole Kidman.

Strahovski: Yeah, the fans have been so great. I am eternally thankful for everything they have done, and I feel really lucky. I think I can speak for the cast when I say we can all go off and whatever we choose to do in our careers we will always have people behind us, and that will be the Chuck fans who were there from the beginning. This show holds a really special place in my heart. I don't know this country without this show in my life. So this is the end of a five-year era for me that not only marks the end of a series, but the end of an era in my personal life where I move to another country and didn't know anybody. And now -- I'm going to cry again. [Laughs] But I can walk away with so much more.

IGN: And lastly, what are you playing in the Frankenstein movie?

Strahovski: Well, I don't know how much I can say about it just yet! I'm working with Aaron Eckhart, which I'm very excited about. I really respect his work. She talks about 'I, Frankenstein,' the 'Chuck' Finale, and Bodypainting:

"You haven't started on I, Frankenstein yet, but what drew you to the film in the first place?

Yvonne Strahovski: "Well, number one is working with Aaron Eckhart. I think he's a wonderful, wonderful actor. I'm super excited to meet him and work with him. I hear he's amazing on set to work with, and he gets very involved in his characters. I'm really looking forward to that. Plus, it's something a little different. I have a British accent in this and I'm a scientist, so it's sort of another character to play, which is what I love about my job is that I get to be a bunch of different characters in one lifetime."

Were you familiar with the graphic novel?

Yvonne Strahovski: "I actually just started reading it on my flight to New York. I'm getting through it, yeah."
